The Chumash, the Native American people of the Zuma region, hold a rich heritage of storytelling. According to legend, the sun traverses the sky carrying a torch of tightly rolled bark. At the end of each daily journey, the sun flicks his torch, releasing a scattering of sparks across the fading sky: the nightly stars.
